Director

ART is seeking a creative & passionate individual with leadership skills to fill the role of Director of Operations.

  • You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of ART Preschool including ensuring high-quality educational programming, implementation of specific health-related protocols, and managing staff, student enrolment, and parent communication. 

  • While a fully-licensed facility, the ART context is unique as you lead a small team of 2 educators in supporting a maximum of 10 learners in a home environment. This setting requires an “all hands-on deck” approach to day-to-day operations and offers the chance for a director to realize creative and innovative programming while also removing health-related barriers to social learning.

  • You will work closely with the Board of Directors and Ministry to ensure ART Preschool operates in accordance with its internal policies and procedures, as well as the provincial Childcare Act and Regulations. The Director is expected to model and demonstrate professionalism and leadership to support a positive work environment and represent ART Preschool in the community.

  • ​Term: Permanent

  • Hours: Full-time

  • Salary: up to 30.50/hr depending on qualifications and experience

  • Start: August 11, 2025

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director’s responsibilities and duties include

Programming & Operations

  • Ensuring the well-being, safety, and personal growth and development of children enrolled

  • Supporting the ECE team with planning and implementation of programming 

  • Providing oversight, direction, mentorship, and supervision to the staff 

  • Managing nutrition, including menu planning, grocery shopping, and meal preparation, in collaboration with the ECE team 

  • Participating in leading programming as required (i.e. when staff are on break)

  • Assisting children with all the necessary care routines as required (e.g. diapering, toileting, hygiene, etc.)

  • Ensuring that employees and practicum students fulfill their duties under the code of ethics for Early Childhood Educators

Administration 

  • Managing learner enrolment and waitlist 

  • Coordinating all requirements for licensing renewals & quality standards assessments

  • Maintaining accurate records as required for the operation of ART Preschool

  • Handling matters relating to Human Resources, including staff performance management, in collaboration with the Board of Directors

  • Reviewing, recommending, and implementing employee policy under the guidance of the Board of Directors

Finance & Centre Sustainability

  • Managing the operational budget in partnership with the Executive and with consideration for available operational grant funds including maintaining accurate financial records 

  • Reviewing bank statements monthly with the Treasurer 

  • Participating in preparing annual operating budget with the Treasurer 

  • Supporting the Board of Directors with grant-seeking and fundraising

Site Management

  • Ensuring housekeeping duties are completed as required 

  • Ensuring the site, both the building and grounds, are maintained in good and safe condition

  • Working proactively with the board executive team and the landlord in communicating concerns and resolving any challenges related to the site

Communication

  • Establishing and maintaining clear and professional lines of communication with the staff, Board of Directors, and families

Qualifications and Experience

  • ECE III Diploma or equivalent

  • Two years experience with demonstrated child care centre/day home management with knowledge of licensing requirements and childcare regulations is preferred

  • Ability to manage people and program budgets

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn about, how to optimize the environment and preschool processes to ensure risk of illness is minimized

  • Additional experience viewed as beneficial:

    • Experience with fostering creative expression through mediums of art, dramatic play, and music an asset Experience with outdoor education or forest school

    • Experience in non-profit or co-operative daycare

    • Experience in a Montessori or other discovery-based learning environment

    • Experience with supporting neurodiverse children

 

 

Required Additional Certifications, Security and Safety Documentation

  • Original criminal record check (vulnerable sector) dated within 3 months of start date

  • Current First Aid & CPR certificates recognized in the province of Saskatchewan 

  • Safe Food Handling 

  • Due to the vulnerability of some of the children being cared for, the successful applicant must be fully immunized (including for  COVID-19) and prepared to provide immunization records

Some notes on the work context

  • Small cohort (10 children) & small staff team (3 plus casual staff) - this creates a family-like setting that can sometimes be a challenge to lead

  • Outdoor learning is a focus with an expectation that, weather permitting, children are primarily outside for the day

  • Infection control protocols including screening for illness for both staff and learners and support for masking

  • No electronic toys or screen time
