Educational Assistant
ART is seeking an Educational Assistant to work one-on-one with our learners who need more support. The ideal candidate will have experience in discovery-based and child-led approaches and experience working with children with unique behavioral and/or developmental needs. Experience with additional specialized approaches including Montessori and Reggio Emilia, would be an asset. The EA will be part of a 3-person team that includes themselves, the Educator, and the Director. Together they will be responsible for successful operation of the At Risk Together Co-Operative Licensed Childcare Centre and Preschool.

Term: temporary, 4 months
Hours: full-time 37.5 hrs/week
Salary: $19 up to $23/hr, dependent on certification & experience

Reporting to the Director, the Educational Assistant's responsibilities and duties include

Protecting and promoting the psychological and physical safety, health, and well-being of each child being cared for with an understanding of the risks and challenges particular to immunocompromised families

Developing and maintaining a warm, caring, and responsive relationship with each child while attending specifically to the needs of the child(ren) they support

Assisting the Educator in planning and delivering daily experiences and programming

Assisting the Director and Educator in preparing (an) individual progress report(s) for the child(ren) they support

Attending to personal care duties as required (i.e. dressing, bathroom needs, personal hygiene matters, feeding etc.)

Assisting the Director and Educator to maintain the grounds and premises, including cleaning, snow clearing etc.

Qualifications and Experience

ECE Certification
-
Willingness to learn about issues and challenges faced by immunocompromised children/families
-
Experience with children with unique medical , developmental, and behavioural support needs preferred
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Experience providing opportunities for creative expression through mediums of art, dramatic play, music an asset

Experience in non-profit day care an asset
-
Experience with Truth and Reconciliation - informed programming an asset

Original criminal record check (vulnerable sector) dated within 3 months of start date

Due to the vulnerability of the children being cared for, the successful applicant must be fully immunized (including for COVID-19) and prepared to provide immunization records
Some notes on the work context

The cohort is very small (10 children)

Infection control protocols including screening and testing are in place

Masking is required

Outdoor learning will be a focus as maximal use of outdoors will mitigate infection risk
