
Early Childhood Educator
ART is seeking an ECE for a temporary full-time position. The ideal candidate will have experience in discovery-based and child-led approaches, including Montessori and Reggio Emilia. The ECE will be part of a 2-person team that includes themselves and the Director. Together they will be responsible for successful operation of the At Risk Together Co-Operative Licensed Childcare Centre and Preschool.
Term: to Aug 31, 2023
Hours: full-time 37.5 hrs/week
Salary: up to $20/hr, dependent on certification & experience
Benefits: paid sick time, up to 3 weeks holidays, group health plan

Reporting to the Director, the Early Childhood Educator's responsibilities and duties include

Protecting and promoting the psychological and physical safety, health, and well-being of each child being cared for with an understanding of the risks and challenges particular to immunocompromised families

Developing and maintaining a warm, caring, and responsive relationship with each child

Assisting the Director in planning and delivering daily experiences and programming

Assisting the Director in preparing individual progress reports for each child and communicate with parents

Assisting the Director in preparing progress reports regarding the overall operations of the daycare and report to the board.

Attending to personal care duties as required (i.e. dressing, bathroom needs, personal hygiene matters, feeding etc.)

Housekeeping duties (sanitizing, sweeping/mopping, dusting, laundry etc)

Maintaining the grounds and premises (raking, grass, snow clearing)
Qualifications and Experience

ECE Certification
-
Understanding of issues and challenges faced by immunocompromised children/families

Professional written and verbal communication skills
-
Experience providing opportunities for creative expression through mediums of art, dramatic play, music

Experience in non-profit day care an asset
-
Experience with program evaluation an asset

Knowledge of licensing regulations an asset

Experience in a Montessori/Reggio or other discovery-based learning environment is an asset but not required

Original criminal record check (vulnerable sector) dated within 3 months of start date

Due to the vulnerability of the children being cared for, the successful applicant must be fully immunized (including for COVID-19) and prepared to provide immunization records
Some notes on the work context

The cohort is very small (10 children)

Infection control protocols including screening and testing are in place

Masking is required at this time

Outdoor learning will be a focus as maximal use of outdoors will mitigate infection risk

No electronic toys or screen time
